A Friend of God

And the scripture was fulfilled which saith,

Abraham believed God, and it was imputed

unto him for righteousness:

and he was called the Friend of God.

James 2:23

I'm sure we have all had that special friend that we could confide in- that special someone that was more special to us than ourselves, but then life just took us in separate directions. The time between touches gets longer and longer; the phone doesn't ring as often, and, before you know it, the friendship has blown away with the wind like the dust.

I am so thankful for all the people the Lord brought into my world. As a military wife, I have had a lot of friends come and go, and while I think of them often, it has been a lifetime since I have seen or heard from them.

God brings people in and out of our lives. He is planting seeds in us and in them for the many seasons of life ahead. This journey we call life is a moment-by-moment journey. Life happens in a moment- a twinkling of an eye. Let's treasure every moment with our friends.

There is one true friendship that doesn't leave; God is the best friend one can ever have. He is the one that is up at night and all day too. He doesn't seem to complain- only to guide and to encourage. I am sure that I have let him down; I am sure that He wishes that I had made some different decisions for myself- I even wish that, but in all seasons of life, He is right beside me. He is a good friend to me, but I also hope I am a good friend to him. Am I responding to Him when He calls on me? Am I hearing Him when He speaks, like a good friend would? I truly hope so.

Prayer Closet

Dear Lord, Thank you- thank you for always being the friend to me that you have been. I want to be the friend to you that Abraham was. Help me to understand what you need from me and empower me to carry it out. Amen.
