Knowing God
Updated: May 9

This side of heaven, my most important goal, is to KNOW God before I get to stand before him.
Could you even imagine? As a long-time believer the thought of standing before God and not knowing his word, the words he gave me to help walk these roads just leaves me feeling humbled.
Know God:
Before we need him
Before we want him
Before we meet him
Think of it this way, who is the one person we as parents love talking about most? Yep, that's right, our kids. God is no different. He loves to hear about his son.
The son he sent in his place and allowed to be sacrificed in our place so that we would not have to endure hell. Could you imagine standing in front of the Lord and not knowing his son? He is very fond of his Son, as he stated in Matthew 3:17
"...this is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased".
We all know God. I mean we know of him, but let's dig deeper.
How well do we know him? Do we know what his likes and dislikes are? Do we know his written word, the verses that he gave us as a guide through the trials of life?
Can we feel him? Not like touching us, but speaking to us quietly in our hearts and touching our spirit in a way that only he can? Guiding us with his still quiet voice of wisdom.
If we can't then we have some work to do, and if we can, we have some work to do. Either way, there is always work to be done.
We never reach the finish line this side of eternity. Some of you might say, then why keep trying? Great question! However, the answer lies in you.
It really depends on how you want to meet your creator.
I know there are some who don't believe in a higher power or God himself. And that is ok, it is really up to you. God will never force you to love him or to accept his free gift. He gave us free will to choose whom we will serve.
Now for those who did decide to accept this free gift and say "I know God, my soul is safe in heaven, and that's enough for me", great. Your soul is secured, and you have a home for eternity, and for that, I am so thankful.
Then, for believers, who have dug into the word and learned who God really is in many different ways, the act of knowing him deeply is so rewarding.
The study of His word and the layers of meanings that lie within, are ever so comforting. I love that there is never just one meaning to most of God's word for us. so many layers and meanings to help us along the way.
I am no pastor and have not studied deeply the Greek and Hebrew texts, however, I have studied the Bible and find that the more I do, the closer to God I become, and the respect in my heart grows and grows.
He reveals himself in his word and I know that when I stand before him our conversation will be of sound doctrine and that of a relationship built out of many years of His revealing himself to me and to my heart.
Not because I know the verses or because I know the sound of his voice. But because he has proven himself to me over and over again.
If by some chance you don't know God already in a personal way, let me help you.
John 3:16-17 says,
"For God so loved the world, that he gave his
only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish,
but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world;
but that the world through him might be saved."
Asking God into your heart today will secure you a home in heaven forever. So, if you know nothing else about God, know this.
God loves you so much that he sent his son to die in our place so that we would not have to endure hell. His free gift of everlasting life awaits us, and all we need is to know and accept his son into our hearts and we will be with him forever.
This life only lasts a little while compared to eternity. So, take a moment and pray for Christ to enter into your heart and accept his free gift of everlasting life.
