Selena's Story: The Rainbow Princess

Selena drew rainbows on everything from day one. Every drawing, every painting, everything. This left such an impression on me. It was as if God was reminding me daily of his promises. She didn't know that the rainbow represented a promise from God, and as we began to teach her the stories of the Bible she began to feel his comfort. She began to feel safe and know that God was watching out for her. This is how she got her nick name "Rainbow Princess"

In the 16th chapter of the book Ezekiel

God enters into a covenant and in verse 6 he says "And when I passed by thee, and saw thee polluted in thine own blood, I said unto thee when thou wast in thy blood, Live; yea, I said unto thee ...,Live." He further shares in verse 8 "...and I spread my skirt over thee, and covered thy nakedness; yea, I sware unto thee, and entered into a covenant with thee, saith the Lord God, and thou becamest mine."

Selena came in the door loving God. She knew very little about him and what he had to offer her, but she had a deep love and joy that stood out. She had been cast out in many ways. No one was waiting in line to love this soul of Christs'. No one was extending compassion to this little lady who was not able to communicate her feelings and emotions with words. She was a sheep lost in the wilderness about to be devoured by evil. Then the mercy of God stood up and said no.

Jeff and I are sitting in the front seats watching God work in the heart of a little girl. He is using us to teach her and to show her first hand what he has promised her. With every stroke of the brush as she creates her rainbow, God is revealing himself to her heart. Her desire to learn more about him as she tries to read his word and embrace what she can understand leaves us in complete and utter awe.

While we don't know what plans he has for her life, we know that those same promises are waiting for us as we walk with her in faith and truth. As we guide her towards him, he continues to meet us along the way. He has made it possible for her to attend a christian school, and as her social skills improve she is able to attend church. She is learning hymns and currently one of her favorites is Standing on the Promises. This is in no way a coincidence. How else would she know that she has all these promises waiting for her. You see we haven't talked to her about the topic of promises yet she seems to know they exists. She doesn't know them fully, but she has hope for a better life than the one she left.

Now that we have passed 12 and getting ready to enter the teen years. We are getting more stable and growing everyday. She is feeling the Lord in her life more and more and has shared with others that she knows God is watching over her. And we all know, he surly is.
